This piece is a trip! I am a recovering perfectionist and in this abstract art I let my perfectionism take over in all of it’s glory. I’m not saying it is perfect, it isn’t, but all of the spacing is as precise as I could get it. Rather than simply indulging a rather problematic characteristic of mine, I allowed myself to enjoy one of my strengths and took the time to nail this piece. I worked from the outside in, and by the time I got to the middle I didn’t know how to end it, so I chose the exact opposite from everything that I had done to that point: I Pollocked it. I did the least perfect thing I could think of, just to show myself that I could; that I could choose when I wanted to indulge and when I would not. While I love painting and I have fun when I create new art, I often experience psychological warfare as I fight within myself against perfectionism. No other piece I have done characterizes my personality so well.
The Hypnotist really speaks an industrial setting to me. This would rock in a conference room, lobby, or office. In a home, this would also kick-ass in a loft or living room.
If you like this piece and would like to commission a similar piece in a different size, shape, or set of colors, I am happy to do so.
